Hope: Before and After Heaven

Below is the sermon archive for the Hope: Before and After Heaven sermon series.

Sermon From 4/19/09:Living From, Through and To: That is part of the passage, being from, through, and to all the glory of God.

Sermon From 4/5/09: Living With Doubt: Simply, doubt is not the opposite of unbelief, but rather is part of the human condition and can be constructive. We will be surveying the Gospel of John starting with Palm Sunday entrance into Jerusalem, and ending with Thomas after the resurrection picking up the theme of doubt.

Sermon From 3/22/09: Finding the Right Balance of Words and Deeds (1 Peter 4:7-11): Word and deed are equally necessary, mutually interdependent and inseparable ministries, each carried out with the single purpose of the spread of the kingdom of God. You might call it necessary symbiosis of both ministries, what we do and say, but sometimes it is very hard to keep them in balance.

Sermon From 3/15/09: Mercy in the Balance (Psalm 41:1-2): We will see what the Bible has to say for us in regards to God centered unconditional and conditional aid and mercy to the poor and needy. God’s mercy comes to us without conditions, but does not proceed without our cooperation. The same for our giving to the needy, it is given without strings attached, but mercy also has a demand of change, or it is not really love.

Sermon From 3/8/09: Pushing the Button (Luke 10 25-27): We are connecting the Gospel and the ministry of mercy, how we can’t do the one without having the other. Without the Gospel, we can’t do Christian ministries of mercy. Without the motivation of God’s mercy in what we do, we would become like a secular service organization.

Sermon From 3/1/09: Our Ministry of Mercy (Psalm 96-7-13): Meeting Needs Through Deeds – The meaning of mercy is meeting needs through deeds. In a sense, deeds of mercy are a foretaste of God putting this world back together. We are going to study the origin of needs (Genesis 3), that being the effects of sin as as they appear in four keys areas, social life, God, self, and physical (nature/stuff). This should provide us with a biblical understanding of what and why we are called by God help people in need.

Sermon From 2/22/09: The Inevitable Outcome (Luke 10:25-37)- Acts of mercy are not optional or additional to being a Christian, rather they are the inevitable sign of true faith.

Sermon From 2/15/09: Life Before Death (Romans 8:18-24) - The physical nature of Salvation. Salvation is not only “going to heaven.” Salvation is not something we have to wait for in the long distant future.
